January 31st, 2011 by Joann Doan

Where would any company be without an amazing sales team? In medical billing software, it is so important to have sales people who understand the needs of the medical practice and how software can help get you paid faster and better. That’s why we’re pleased to announce several new excellent additions to the Kareo sales team, joining Jason McDonald and Matt Kelly in serving you when you have questions about Kareo.

Tyler WilsonTyler Wilson comes to Kareo with over three years experience as a Sales Administrator. Prior to joining us, Tyler was employed at Vontoo, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN.

What Tyler likes about Kareo is that “every person in every department is dedicated to working together to grow the business.” When he’s not dedicating his time to Kareo, Tyler likes to spend time with his wife and kids and playing golf. Tyler Wilson has his B.S. in Sport Management from Barry University, Miami Shores, FL.

Rick PalmerBefore Rick Palmer came to Kareo as a Sales Executive, he was the Sales/Account Manager at Consciencium for three years. Rick loves tech-startup companies; therefore, he was naturally drawn to Kareo. He believes that “Kareo has already moved past the many hurdles of a young company, and is poised for explosive growth.” Moreover, he is excited to join a team that has “massive potential and a great product to stand behind.”

Rick is looking forward to working at Kareo because he enjoys selling a great product that he has “a ton of confidence in.” He adds, “It definitely makes selling a much more enjoyable process when you know you have the best offering in the market!”

Rick attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences with a minor in Marketing. He enjoys playing soccer, golf and disco golf and spends much of his free time with his wife and friends.

Scott CramerScott Cramer, Senior Sales Executive, comes to Kareo with 14 years of sales and sales management experience. Transitioning from Delivra, a small email marketing SaaS company to Kareo, a medical billing software company, Scott likes the “tremendous growth opportunity” that he sees in Kareo. Additionally, he thinks “the Southern California office is a nice change from Indiana.” Especially in winter, Scott!

Scott received his BS degree from Purdue University. When he isn’t spending time with his wife and kids you can find Scott mountain biking, camping or playing soccer.

We’re glad to have you on the team, guys!

Why Your Medical Billing Software MUST Include Real-Time Insurance Eligibility Verification

January 24th, 2011 by Joann Doan

Chasing co-paysIf your medical billing software doesn’t include real-time insurance eligibility verification, you may be wondering, “What’s so important about insurance eligibility verification?”

The answer is: It’s only important if you want to get paid what you’ve earned.

With real-time insurance eligibility verification, a click of a button tells you whether the patient is eligible for insurance payment, eliminating up to 50% of denials on the spot and saving your staff from hours on the phone.  In fact, the AMA estimates that you save approximately $3,700 per year, $2.95 per verification, by automating your eligibility verification process. That’s just the savings in the labor hours spent verifying eligibility by phone. There’s much more:

  1. Eligibility verification reduces denied claims due to ineligible patients beginning with the appointment call. Your office can either gather the correct insurance information, or notify the patient up front that they will be required to cover the cost of the visit themselves. This saves hours of staff time later in the process.
  2.  You will reduce the number of claims that must be resubmitted, saving a substantial amount of time and money. The MGMA suggests that the cost of following up on a rejected or denied claim can be as high as $57 per claim. Since 50% of denied claims are due to lack of insurance coverage, you will be saving a substantial amount by reducing the number of denied claims your staff must resubmit.
  3. You can collect more co-pays upfront, and insure that the amount collected is correct. By using real-time eligibility verification when the appointment is made, your staff can quickly confirm the amount of the co-pay and that the co-pay is due when the patient arrives at the practice. This will increase your revenue from co-pays and reduce the amount of time spent chasing co-pays post-visit.

In short, if you’re not already using real-time insurance eligibility verification, it’s costing your practice tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars each year. If you want to make 2011 a more profitable year, it’s time for your practice to adopt this valuable electronic tool.

Note: Learn more about real-time insurance eligibility verification or watch a real-time insurance eligibility demo.
